FlufferNutter

What in the heck is a FlufferNutter? Well remember my S'More post where I talked about Fluff?
Fluff seems to be an east coast thing as I have heard you can't buy it out west (but to be it seems to be the same as marshmallow cream). Well if you make a sandwich with peanut butter and fluff you get a fluffernutter.
Behold a FLufferNutter. No I did not make that name up it is written on the back of the Fluff container. It seems this is the main use of Fluff since I found the fluff next to the peanut butter at the grocery store. My husband thinks they are gross, but he has never eaten one himself. He was also horrified that I introduced them to our daughter. However, I looked at the nutritional stuff on the container and Fluff has less sugar and less calories than both Jam and honey. Now I am not saying Fluff is better for you, but the less calories thing is something to think about. Well have I intrigued you? Do you all want to go out and get you some fluff? (No I am not getting paid for this)

Mixed Media Art Canvas:Blog Swap Under the Willow

I had a lot of fun with this project and found it really relaxing to do. No rules, so No mistakes. I started out with a base coat of paint on a 11X14 canvas then went from there. Some paper, some decoupage, stamps, inks, shimmer spray, stencils, die cuts, and misc embellishments.

You need to try this. I was inspired by Jana @ CreatingScrapbooks.com. I love all the techniques she used, Watch her YouTube video. I think the trick to this is layering.and texture. But like I said No rules.

Me Want Cookie!

This past weekend I photographed a 1st birthday party with an Elmo and Cookie monster theme. As I was going through the pictures my daughter saw the picture of a little cake (made for the birthday boy to smash) with cookie monster on it and instantly proclaimed that she wanted cookie monster cupcakes. This idea has been in her head ever since and she is constantly asking to make cookie monster cupcakes, so today after playgroup I decided to help her make some cookie monster cupcakes.
This is what we came up with. They are chocolate chuck cupcakes with blue buttercream frosting.
We made the fur by piping the frosting on with a cake decorating tip (the one normally used to make leaves). And we used chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth.
Of course there can't be a cookie monster without cookies. We used cookie crunch cereal for our mini cookies.
There are the perfect size to fit into cookie monsters mouth, but bigger cookies would be fun too.
So after days of begging for cookie monster cupcakes here they are. I confess that not all the cupcakes were made into cookie monster and not all of them turned out,
but she didn't seem to mind.

Back 2 School in Style

My oldest had her first day of school today and even though it was only Joy School and I don't think she really cares what she wears I made her a cute little outfit to wear. After all she is the only girl in her class.
Isn't she so cute? Later this week I will post more details what I did to create this outfit, but for now just enjoy the cuteness.
She loved it and can't wait to go back. She also loved her outfit and as soon as she put it on she wanted to show her daddy, but was at work. Mondays are always the hardest after having daddy home for the weekend.
They grow up so fast. Today might just be Joy School, but then it is Kindergarten, Jr. High and High school and before I know it she will be off the college.

Flashback Friday: Apple pickin' Dress

Since I have a lot of projects that didn't get blogged about over the last year due to my being pregnant I decided I would do a little flashback every now and then. Here is a little something I made last September for my little girl to go apple pickin' in.
Every year we go to an apple orchard and every year I find myself making Addi a little dress to wear. See her first dress from 2 years ago here. That dress was up cycled from a knit T-shirt. Then last year I used some corduroy remnants I found for cheap at Joann's to make this little jumper.
There is just something about fall that makes me want to sew. That is probably why I feel the need to make her a new dress every year. Isn't the corduroy just perfect for a wagon ride through the orchard?
I just took a jumper she already had to use as a pattern. I had decided to make this the night before we went so I kept it really simple, plus I didn't have much fabric.
I hate making button holes. I don't know why, I can never get them to work on my machine (haven't tried on the new machine yet, so I just made straps and tied them together over the shoulder.
I paired the dress with a coordinating turtle neck and some boots. In colder weather it can also be worn with tights or leggings.

Get sewing your little one a fall outfit and stay tune for this years fall outfits. A first day of school outfit for Monday and another apple dress in the next two weeks.

Back 2 School Slate

Its not really back 2 school for us since my daughter has never been to school and she isn't old enough for formal preschool, but we like to play like we are at school and learn our ABCs and 123s. I thought it would be fun if I made her a little slate. Reminds me of Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie.
I picked up a cheap clip board and painted it with chalk board paint I got at the hardware store. Instant mini chalk board, or slate. I spruced it up with some ribbon and decals. You could decorate it any way you want, but don't go too overboard or there won't be any chalkboard left to write on (I was on my way to overboard and took it all off and went for simple).
I found a pack of chalk with chalk holder for a dollar and attached to the board with some ribbon so it won't get lost.
And guess what it is magnetic too. Before I painted it with the chalkboard paint I used magnetic primer. It's not very magnetic (maybe I needed to add more primer) but it is perfect for small lightweight magnets like these ABC magnets.
Addi takes her learning very serious and she loves her new board. When she found it on the table this morning she said "what's this?" and was so excited when I told her it was hers and showed her how she could draw on it.

S'More Fun

One of our favorite summertime activity is going camping. We were only able to go once this summer due to having a baby this summer (went when I was 34 weeks pregnant. Lots of fun :).
And of course we roasted marshmallow and made s'mores. Although summer is coming to an end and there may not be much time for camping it is the perfect time of year for bonfires and smores. I love sitting around the fire with friends and family when it chilly out and we are warmed by the fire.
And in case you are like Smalls from Sandlot and have never had a s'more this is a s'more -Roasted marshmallow and hershey chocolate between graham crackers.
Or I like to use fudge strip cookies instead of the chocolate and crackers I find it easier to make and to eat. Oh and speaking of easier, did you know you can make a s'more in the microwave. It take only 5 sec. Not as fun, but super easy.
I like cupcakes so when I was thinking of some fun s'more treat I instantly thought of s'more cupcakes. You can turn anything into a cupcake.
I started with my favorite chocolate cake recipe. After putting the batter in the cupcake tin I sprinkled a topping of crushed graham crackers and chocolate chips on the top before baking. After baking I topped the cupcake with Marshmallow frosting (Butter-cream frosting made with marshmallow cream as flavoring. And then because I thought they looked a little boring I added some leftover topping to the top. These cupcakes were so good and I am not just saying that because I made them. I am now officially in love with marshmallow frosting.
Don't think I stopped there. Next I made s'more fudge. Another very yummy treat and this time I shared so I have others to confirm their yumminess(I don't think that is a word, but I like it). I took them to an end of summer cookout we had with some friends.
I made these by following the no fail fudge recipe on the back of the marshmallow Fluff. If you don't live on the east coast and can't find Fluff marshmallow cream works just as well(but don't tell my fellow east coasters I said that. Some of these east coasters take their Fluff seriously. After you have made up the fudge following the instructions on the jar add some graham cracker crumbs and mini marshmallow. Then pour it in a pan and let it set up. It is that easy. The best part is if you burn it a little it taste even better. I think I burnt the fluff a little and it gave the fudge a burnt marshmallow taste which gave it even more of a s'more flavor. My husband said he didn't think it would be as good if I didn't burn it, but he could have just been trying to make me feel better.

Lamp Makeovers and Tutorial (and mystery revealed)

So what was this lovely pink blob that you all thought was a tu-tu?
A Tu-tu lampshade. Remember this ribbon lampshade my mom and I did for Addi's room after she was born? Well since we moved I changed up Addi's room and it now has a black and white and pink theme so the lamp just didn't go anymore and needed another makeover. I loved this tulle lampshade my mom did and wanted to do something similar. So while mom was here to see the baby she helped me out again.
So simple, all she did was cut stripsof pink tulle and tied them around the lampshade with knot on the top. Then cut off all the ends to the length you want.
Now that I had a hip new lampshade I needed to spruce up the white and blue flower base with a little spray paint.
Of course my little side kicks had to help out. How would I ever get this done if I didn't have my paint shaker.
Finished project. While I was taking pictures, I thought it needed something else. I think I am going to add a pink vinyl princess crown to the base. What do you think?

I did a second lamp for my daughters room (there are no lights in our townhouse except bathrooms and kitchen, so I need lamps).
I picked this lamp up at goodwill for $5. I liked how bigit was and the shape of the shade.
I was going to use black and white ribbon to make a lamp like this one,but after one spool of ribbon didn't even cover 1/4 of the shade I decided that would be to expensive so I used some materials I had on hand instead.
I took a piece of white muslin as tall as the lampshade. I gathered each side of the material by running it through my machine on straight stitch with stitch length set at 5 and tension set at 7. By setting the tension higher it automatically gathered the material. I then hot glued the material to the lampshade.
To hide where I attached the white material I made a black ruffle using knot from a black t-shirt and the same settings on my sewing machine. I then twisted the ruffle as I glued it over the raw edge of the muslin. I sprayed the base of this lamp as well.
Now I have 2 new matching lamps for my daughters room. And thanks to the 5 of you who left me comments. I used a random generated and Crystal you won my mystery gift that I am making using the ribbon I didn't use on the lamp and the leftover tulle. Good thing you have a girl because pink tulle is kind of girly.

Did you guess . . .

a tu-tu? Well you would be wrong. Do you think I would make it that easy? I will give you a clue it is a makeover of of a make over I did earlier on my blog. (I am so resourceful.) Another clue I didn't use one of these to do it

But I did get my sewing machine out this week, first time since the baby was born and only about the second time since I got my new sewing machine back in March. It is National Sewing month after all. And guess what it only took me an hour to get started. I pulled the sewing machine out, helped crying child, thread machine, help crying baby, sit back down to sewing machine and it won't turn on, after about 3 min realize I have to plug it in, plug machine in, sit there for another min trying to figure out what else I am missing, figure out it is my pedal foot, search closet for foot, finally start sewing only to have baby wake up. Hopefully now that I have it all set up I won't waste a whole nap time trying to remember how to sew (I think I have a little bit of anew mother brain). I am finally going to finish my sisters Birthday present. Yes, her birthday was clear back in March (I was too fat to sew that is my excuse) and yes it was my others sisters birthday last week and I don't feel right working on her present until I finish my other sister's present. I will just do them both this month and give them to them in person when I see them next month,it is better to give them in person anyways right? Beside my sister Baylee said that having her niece sing her happy birthday to her over skype was her best birthday present so I guess that means I don't have to make her anything.

Anyways, you have a few more days to take a guess at what this is and enter to win a special hand made gift made from the leftover materials. I will post what 'it' is this weekend.
